Kyphosis
What is that, actually?

Kyphosis is an excessive backward curvature of the spine - usually in the thoracic spine - which can lead to a hunched back. This curvature can be of a structural or postural nature and has various causes.

Kyphosis are differentiated according to their cause and severity: a distinction is made between postural kyphosis, Scheuermann's disease (structural growth disorder) and age-related kyphosis, for example because of osteoporotic vertebral body fractures. The extent of the curvature and any accompanying symptoms such as pain or restricted movement also play an important role in the diagnosis.

Kyphosis often occurs during growth, especially during puberty. Boys are affected more often than girls. In adults, age-related kyphosis is often the result of degenerative changes in the spine.

Early diagnosis and individual treatment can help to stabilize the curvature, alleviate discomfort and improve posture and quality of life in the long term.
